Layers of Life

The world outside the Nature Center’s lodge is full of stories about the history of life on Earth. There are so many hidden habitats, secretive animals, and goings-on high in the treetops or deep underground, that one person could never observe them all! Join us in exploring these undiscovered worlds in Layers of Life.

What is a tree and how does it grow? What does it provide to different animals? In fact, which animals make their homes around the Nature Center? Discover the answers to all these questions, and realize just how much we humans rely on the forests.

Reimagining Layers of Life:

To support its vision of becoming a premier educational center for lifelong learning about the natural history of the Cayuga Lake Basin and the threats of climate change and biodiversity loss, the Cayuga Nature Center is looking to build a permanent exhibit on the layers of life in Northeastern forests in the Great Room at the lodge.
