Kicking off the summer at CNC Summer Camp!

Our first two and a half weeks of camp have come and gone! We are so thankful for the voices of campers returning to our courtyard, echoing on the trails, and visiting our Animal Ambassadors. While we’ve had our fair share of rain storms for the start of camp, we are thankful that our campers have had a blast getting muddy! When the rain held off, campers cooled off with water gun fights, strolls in the stream, and even a slip-n-slide!

We are thankful for the flexibility of our camp parents when we had to cancel a day of camp due to excessive thunderstorms. Fingers crossed for some more sunshine for the rest of the summer!

Campers experienced all things plant power! We explored the kingdom of plants and focused on the life cycle of a plant, from seed propagation to the decomposition of a log. Campers met native trees and plants, and experimented with ways that humans have harnessed the power of plants!

Campers got to meet and greet with many of our Animal Ambassadors during our animal programs! Highlights included Fiona the turtle and our new ferret Ambassadors, Venus and Serena!

Our preschool campers explored the world of all kinds of bugs from wiggly worms to hungry caterpillars to dragonflies. During free play, lots of fairy houses were built using sticks and leaves propped up against some trees. Some campers even built structures in the woods out of sticks during our Surviving Cayuga Land camp week!

One of the gems of the Cayuga Nature Center is our beloved 6-story TreeTops treehouse. Campers got to have a “Treehouse Party Day”, where a group got the structure all to themselves and ate lunch with a view of the trees!

While campers had a blast playing and running around, they had many educational programs and activities like a temperature detective program, run by Dr. Ingrid Zabel, Climate Change Education Manager at PRI. Campers also did a water filtration program and learned all about skull adaptations.

We are so excited for the rest of the summer and all the memories it will bring!
