PeeWee Spring Sessions

Stimulate the natural creativity and wonder of your child as we explore connections with nature during the beautiful spring season at the Cayuga Nature Center.  Weather permitting, we'll take hikes to spy on birds, visit life in a log, or sway with the trees.  If the weather is bad, we'll find plenty of things to do indoors!  Stories, games, crafts and healthy snacks are all part of the fun each week!  Our 8 week session begins April 17th so don't delay! Register your child for either a Tuesday OR a Thursday class each week.  The same nature theme will be presented at both Tuesdays and Thursdays in a given week. Each program is from 10 AM until Noon.  We now have our own classroom for preschoolers, so come check out the activities for your little ones any time of the week.

Developmental Aspects
The PeeWee Naturalist program is for 3-5 year old children and their caregivers. Each class is expected to have 8-10 participating parent/child units, which allows us to plan activities emphasizing a variety of interactions between parents and their children, between the child and other adults, and between the children themselves. Elements of each type of interaction are incorporated into every week's lesson plan.

Getting in Touch With Nature
We believe that an early exposure to different features of the natural world can not only enhances a child's comfort level in a variety of settings but actually allows a child to develop a self-image that is well-integrated into our natural environment. Sensory experiences are important for pre-schoolers, and is an area of emphasis for PeeWee programs. Activities may include touching our resident live animals, plants and soil; using each of the senses to "experience" a tree or stream, smelling and tasting cool air, and more! Pee Wee’s will play games, do crafts, and go outside to interact with peers, adults, and nature of course!!

Snacks
Sugary, processed snacks have no place in nature! We'll focus on healthy, fun snacks that might just have some connection with our weekly theme. Please note if your child has allergies, as we plan accordingly so everyone can enjoy our tasty treats!
