SUMMER
DAY CAMPS
The
Cayuga Nature Center is thrilled to offer nine weeks of camp this year
and to partner with Museum of the Earth to bring new and exciting
things to this year's camp. Each week has a specific theme, and all
programs will participate in games, arts and crafts, swimming,
cooking, campfires, and more. Below are descriptions of each week. If
this is your first time coming to CNC for camp we
think
you’re going to love it!!!
Ages: 5-12
Time: 9:00 to 4:30. Counselors on duty
from 8:00AM-6:00PM to provide quality childcare for your convenience.
Cost: $240 for the week
June 30 -
July 4
Wild Things: Past and Present
Dinosaurs,
lizards, and mammals, OH MY! Explore the prehistoric past of dinosaurs
and the animals currently living at Cayuga Nature Center.What clues do
living animals have that help paleontologists reconstruct fossils of
the largest animals to ever live on land? Learn about the world of
dinosaurs and their relatives, such as when they lived, what they ate,
and what kind of sounds they may have made.
July 7 – 11
Outdoor Living
Come
learn how to build shelters and fires, and experience outdoor cooking.
Explore CNC woods while learning camp crafts and wilderness safety. Be
an explorer today!
July 14 -18
Rock This!
Did
you know that New York was once covered by a shallow sea? And that
12,000 years ago large Ice Age mastodons roamed in your backyard? Come
look at our local landscape through the eyes of a geologist and bring
the rich fossil history of our region back to life.
July 21- 25
Reptiles and Amphibians
Get
to know and learn about the variety of reptiles and amphibians that
live at CNC. Explore the native species that can only be found in our
wild, and discover their habitats and their way of life.
July 28 -
August 1
Wet and Crazy
There
are more than fish that live in the water. Discover the diversity of
cool animals and plants inhabiting the water from the lake, ponds and
streams surrounding CNC.
August 4 - 8
Stars and Planets
Explore
the sky in the day and night. We will bring in a portable planetarium
to let us explore the skies. Hear Native American and Ancient Greek
myths. This week includes an overnight stay so we can explore the night
skies!
August 11-15
Caretakers of the Earth
Learn
what really happens in a compost bin, how recycling helps the planet,
and why these conservation activities save our forests, streams,
fields, and animals.
August 18 - 22
Pioneering
We
will step back in time where we will explore the crafts and trades of
pioneer days. We will learn about natural dyeing, wild edibles,
hunting, and living off the land.
August 25 - 29
Dinosaurs of a Feather
Did
you know that birds are living dinosaurs? Spend time with the living
dinosaurs at CNC such as the dove and red tail hawk, learn about their
special connection to the dinosaurs that lived millions of years ago
and how they live today. We will bring in special presenters from the
Cornell Raptor program as well.

CAMPS |
The Cayuga Nature Center
has SIX weeks of ADVENTURE CAMP this year. Below are the descriptions
of each week.
Ages: 10—16
Cost: $400 for Canoe and Backpacking Trips

July 14-18
Canoe The Finger Lakes Region—Overnight
Program
An
extended canoe trip for those looking for a greater challenge. We begin
with a day at CNC and then move into Cayuga Lake. Over the course of
four days we will paddle and explore Cayuga Lake and the Erie Canal.

July 21 - 25
Backpacking the Finger Lakes—Overnight
Program
Upon
arriving on the Finger Lakes Trail we will gear up and prepare for a
four day and three night journey. We will explore this awesome area on
foot, sleeping under the stars, and trekking over hills, fields, and
across streams. Bring your hiking boots and your spirit for adventure!

TEAM Challenge—Day Camp 9AM-4PM
Spend
the week challenging yourself and supporting your teammates as TEAM
Challenge facilitators provide for your group increasingly more
difficult initiatives (problem-solving activities) to solve together,
the opportunity to climb all our ropes course elements, and the option
to learn how to belay.
