Will the groundhog see his shadow this year? What is a groundhog? Are they different than woodchucks? Learn all about these interesting and infamous animals!  This program is part of our Family Adventures in Nature series: Bring the whole family to the Cayuga Nature Center on Sundays this winter for great outdoor adventures!  Each week we will investigate new topics through extraordinary activities and hike different areas of our five miles of beautiful trails. On days when there is enough snow on the ground, there will be snowshoes available for the hike! All ages are welcome. Reservations are not required, but large organized groups are asked to call ahead.

Help with the Great Back Yard Bird Count by identifying birds at CNC.  Whether you’re an expert or a novice, your count can help scientists to understand changes in bird populations! February 15th - 19th - Winter Camp
Don’t miss out on winter break by staying indoors.  Explore all the wonders of winter with Cayuga Nature Center and Museum of the Earth for a truly enriching winter experience. Winter camp will take place in Cayuga Nature Center’s beautiful cozy lodge overlooking the white rolling hills surrounding Cayuga Lake. In this fun-filled week, campers will have the opportunity to go sledding, snowshoeing, maple sugaring, build snow shelters, learn about our live animals, enjoy a cup of hot chocolate by the fireplace, and maybe even track dinosaurs through the snow!  For the first time, we are offering camp by the day. 
Cost: $50 per day or $200 for the entire week
Camp runs from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with free before and after camp care. (Staff on duty from 8am-5:30pm) It is for ages: 5 – 12

Saturday March 13th from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. – Project Learning Tree

Project Learning Tree (PLT) is an award-winning environmental education program presented through an active workshop format. It uses the forest as a “window” into the natural world, helping young people gain awareness and knowledge of the world around them, as well as their place within it. Participants experience activities designed to teach all the disciplines while focusing on trees and forest ecosystems.  Each participant receives an activity manual containing 96 activities for grades pre-K through eight and other resources.  High school modules are available as well.  Activities are cross referenced by topic, grade, subject, skills, technology connections and time.  Each activity is written in lesson plan format with objectives, materials, background, skills and assessment opportunity.  These activities are correlated to the New York State Learning Standards for Mathematics, Science, and Technology, English Language Arts and Social Studies.  In-service Credit available.

March 27th & 28th – CNC’s Annual MapleFest 2010
Maple syrup is a special and unique product, and the Finger Lakes region is one of the few places on earth where people can harvest and boil tree sap into a delicious food!  Our MapleFest includes maple sap and syrup sampling, local foods, a pancake breakfast both mornings from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., crafts and games for kids, live music, tours of our Sugarbush, animal programs, craft vendors, and much more!  Stay tuned for more details.

Mark your calendars for these events!

April 5th – 9th 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. – WILD Spring Break Camp
Spring Camp is a special time at Cayuga Nature Center.  Explore all the miracles of spring with Cayuga Nature Center and Museum of the Earth for an adventurous week.  Campers will explore the world of nature, which will include forest and stream ecology, native animals and their environments, and early pioneer life.  In addition, we will have many opportunities to explore TreeTops, fish in our ponds, play games and participate in arts and crafts activities.  Join us for a WILD time at Cayuga Nature Center! Free before and after camp care.  (Staff on duty from 8am-5:30pm) Ages: 5 – 12  / Cost: $200 for the week

Cost: On Site Programs - $4 per person per hour (minimum of $100 per program/visit); Off-site includes small additional fee for mileage and travel time.
