The Cayuga
Nature Center is home to many unique critters, loved and cared for by
our trained staff. From tarantulas to hawks, snakes to chinchillas,
CNC has them all.
Where do
our animals come from? Some of our critters have fascinating stories
of how they were heroically saves and raised by humans. Others were
badly injured and could no longer live in the wild. Still others come
to us as former pets who could no longer be cared for at home. Regardless
of where our critters come from, they are given the proper attention,
nutrition, housing and care that each individual animal deserves to
be happy and healthy.
CNC Critters
are not trained to perform. They will not do tricks and we do not teach
them to ask for rewards. Our animal programs illustrate the amazing
abilities these critters are naturally born with, the skills they would
use to survive in the wild! Visit our Environmental_Education
page to schedule a formal program, or visit our Public_Programs
page to learn about programs that are open to the public.

Finches

Finches
are magical little birds. They can make great first time pets
for the new bird enthusiast in your family. Cayuga Nature Center
is home to a whole flock of Zebra Finches. We are currently adopting
out a few of these little guys to great new homes. Adoption fees
are $25 per pair and funds are used to support the entire animal
collection. If you are interested in learning how you can adopt
a pair and would like to know how to get started, give us a call
at 273-6260.

Help
us acquire our newest critters, a pair of Fennec Foxes!
We
are currently looking for donations to help us bring some new
critters to the Nature Center. Fennec Foxes are small foxes that
are native to the Sahara Desert. Unlike Henna, our Red Fox, Fennec
Foxes are leash trainable, so we would be able to take them to
schools for educational purposes. We need $3,000 to bring these
foxes to the Nature Center - $1,000 for each pup (they live best
in pairs!) and $1,000 to supply food, vet care, enclosures, etc.
Can you help? If so, give us a call at 273-6260 or email us at
critters@cayuganaturecenter.org
**Update**
Foxy ladies! Cayuga Nature Center would like to send a great big
THANK YOU to the Community Partnership Board, a program of the
Cornell University Public Service Center for sponsoring the acquisition
of a Fennec Fox. You too can help! We need to raise $1,000 more
to bring these two critters to Ithaca. Make a donation today to
help support the care and training of these special creatures.
These new foxes will be on public exhibit starting in the spring
of 2006. For more information and to make a donation call us at
273-6260.
